“Everyone's quality of life is important and should be recognized. There is always a reason to live life to the fullest. As the Fitness Director overseeing the Momentum program, I get to see the participants feel supported and cared for. In this way, the program has truly blessed my life.” ~ Jennifer Winter
Momentum is part of the Wellness and Fitness programs at the York Jewish Community Center in York, Pennsylvania where Jennifer is the Fitness Director. Momentum is a science-based movement class for those with neuro-cognitive conditions, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, and brain trauma.
“The Momentum program started in 2018 and the program supports people with any movement disorder. We provide classes that are free for the community. The participants are assessed upon intake and then reassessed every three months in movement, flexibility, and overall wellness.
We have seen an increase in each of these areas from most participants. The participants also receive free compression or ice therapy depending on their needs. Support and social groups are also a part of this amazing program.
There is a community within a community that is built on relationships and hard work. Everyone in this group gives 100% because they know what it could mean if they don't. I love being a part of this program and seeing the positivity and perseverance. Participants in this group deserve to be cared for and have a cheerleader every day they choose to come in and work as hard as they do.”
The Momentum program is supported by the Alzheimer’s Association, Wellspan Health, York County Community Foundation, and Memorial Health Fund. It’s so moving to see what can be built when active players in community health come together to innovate.
